Scott Welsh leaving was a bit of a surprise. I tend to think some players believe they are above rules stated by the club regarding contract negotiations. Welshy probably should have realised after Ben Hudson (now his teammate again at the Bulldogs) was turned down due to demanding a two year deal. It's just a shame in the end.
Patrick 'Rodney' Dangerfield was our number one pick in the draft. Reports suggest he can play anywhere and has bags of pace. Unfortunately he won't be playing this season as he completes his HSC in Victoria. Seems like he's a focused character which is what we're looking for. All we need is for him to make a name for himself in Adelaide.
Simon Goodwin is now officially the club captain. Goodwin has been a great servant to the club and thoroughly deserves his opportunity to be a leader. Speaking of leaders, Nathan Van Berlo has been added to the leadership group. No surprise in that really as he is a class player, and at 21 you might consider him future captain material.
Would you accept a West Australian as the captain of the team for all South Australians? I certainly would as long as it is Nathan Van Berlo.
